This unique ceramic sculpture has been modeled with chamotted white clay and glazed with a thick, luscious reduction glaze. Reduction firing is a ceramic kiln technique where the oxygen supply is intentionally restricted, causing the atmosphere inside to become oxygen-starved. This forces the combustion process to "steal" oxygen molecules from the clay and glaze, creating unique, earthy, or metallic colors (such as Celadon greens or copper reds) that are impossible to achieve in a normal, oxygen-rich environment.
As a result, every piece is different as it carries a distinct interaction between the clay and the glazing.
